Rooms That Are Portable

Sometimes situations or events arise where just one or two extra rooms are needed. From growing school enrollment to visiting family to out-of-town business associates requiring space to hold a meeting -- finding portable options for use can be a challenge. You may find what you need exists in some common spaces that are readily available and suitable for such portable room uses.
  1. Trailers

    • Trailers, whether self-propelled recreational vehicles or the type that need to be pulled, provide extra space with a few touches associated with home. Many trailers have places to sit, cook, eat and sleep. In addition, larger trailers have fully functioning bathrooms and kitchens, which provide for additional space. Trailers are used at construction sites where space is needed on a temporary basis to campgrounds for those traveling for long periods of time. Cost can be a factor, as the more features and benefits associated with the trailer relates directly to the price.

    Modular Rooms

    • Modular rooms, such as those used by growing school districts and companies, are among the high-end of portable room options. Many come pre-wired for electricity, phone, Internet and cable. Plumbing is optional with these rooms as well. Modular rooms range in size and can house upwards of a hundred people. The benefit of these portable areas is that they can be moved and shifted around a property as needed and can also provide extra room almost instantaneously if the size you need is available. Modular rooms are pre-constructed, which makes them easy to come by in a pinch.

    Pods

    • Though used primarily for moving purposes, pod containers are large free-standing structures. They can be delivered to any flat area where the pod fits such as a front yard, backyard or even driveway. Though they lack ventilation, you can use a pod as a storage room when you are in the process of re-organizing your home or office and need a place to store items and keep them safe from adverse weather conditions. Though not a typical use, one could keep the main bay door open on the pod and throw some chairs inside to use the space as a makeshift room if need be. If you plan on attempting this, make sure to have a fan attached to an extension cord to keep air flow circulating throughout.

    Tents

    • Though not a room in the sense that it comes automatically equipped with heating, air conditioning or even electricity, tents can be used in a pinch when an extra room is needed. Tents can be used for an outdoor gathering or meeting to protect against the sun and rain. You can also use a tent as a portable room when traveling or when guests come to town and you need just one extra room for people to sleep.
