How to Adjust the Guard on a Concrete Saw

Concrete cut-off saws have a number of safety features to prevent debris and sparks from blowing into the operator's direction. One of these safety features is the blade guard, which surrounds a sizable portion of the cutting blade. When making specific types of cuts, you may need to adjust the saw's blade guard either forward or backward. You can make the adjustments without using any tools, as most concrete saws' blades feature adjustable handles at the tops or sides of the guards.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the saw off using the appropriate switch. Allow the saw's blade to come to a complete stop before you set it down on a flat work surface such as a garage floor.

    • 2

Inspect the upper portion of the blade guard and locate its adjustment handle; the handle will be attached directly to the top or the back side of the blade guard.

    • 3

Grasp the guard adjustment handle with one hand while holding the saw firmly down on the ground with the other hand. Place a tip of a boot through the lower portion of the handle for added stability.

    • 4

Pull or push the blade adjustment handle in the direction you want the guard to turn. Watch the water outlet hose to make sure it doesn't get stretched to a breaking point.

    • 5

Check the guard to make sure it's in the proper location and won't hinder you from making cuts before starting and operating the saw. If the guard is in the wrong location, stop the saw and repeat the steps above to make the proper adjustments.
