How to Use a Marshalltown 14739 Rebar Bender

Rebar re-enforces concrete. When adding rebar to your concrete, you need to bend the rebar at some point. For example, you have to bend the rebar to go around the corners in your footings. You can use a tool specifically designed to bend rebar, such as the Marshalltown 14739 rebar bender. This tool is a manual rebar bender made of steel. It takes a little muscle power, but you can bend rebar up to 5/8-inch in diameter with this tool.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay the rebar flat on the ground. Place a mark with the felt tip pen at the point where the bend will begin.

    • 2

Hold the Marshalltown rebar bender upright by the handle with the bottom resting on the ground near the mark on the rebar.

    • 3

Slide the rebar between the bottom steel pin and one of the top pins on the rebar bender. The rebar bender has three steel pins in the shape of a triangle. The bender has one bottom pin and two horizontally aligned top pins. This design allows for bending in either direction.

    • 4

Move the rebar between the pins until the mark lines up with the top pin. Step on the rebar to hold it to the ground. You should step a couple of feet behind the bend point.

    • 5

Pull back on the handle of the rebar bender while holding the rebar rod to the ground. The rebar will bend. Stop when the rebar bends to the desired angle.
