Removing the handle from the Hart Woody hammer requires a bit of patience and a few minutes. The hammer handle is fastened onto the hammer head with friction by means of a metal wedge in the top portion of the handle. A 3/8-inch metal strap also is attached to the top to provide additional strength to the handle and to prevent breakage. You can remove the handle yourself with some basic tools.
