How to Accurately Bend Copper Pipe

If you need to perform a plumbing repair that requires bent copper pipe, there's no need to call a plumber if you can tackle the job yourself. Copper pipe is commonly used in plumbing for homes, especially older ones. Reliable, anti- corrosive and relatively easy to install, copper piping is not difficult to work with. Simple tools and techniques can be used with a good rate of success.

Instructions

      Measure the radius of the bend in the pipe you are replacing. Typical angles are either a 45 or 90 degree bend.

      Slide the copper tube into the pipe bender and rotate the pipe clamp over the end.

      Place the pipe former in the bender and around the pipe. Slide the arm of the bender down slightly to secure the former on the pipe.

      Pull the arm firmly down along the pipe to begin the bend. Note the location of the arm as you bend, and pull until the arm gets to the 45 degree or 90 degree mark on the bender by aligning the arm with the mark.

      Slide the arm back to the original position. Remove the former from the bender, and release the pipe clamp, sliding the pipe out of the machine.
