How to Use a Box End Wrench

Bolts should be secured properly to ensure that they can perform their task. A box-end wrench is a wrench used to secure non-square bolts which completely encapsulates the nut effectively "boxing" it in. It is also known as a "socket wrench" or a "ring spanner." You can use a box-end wrench to manipulate a nut where space is limited. You just need to use the correct size wrench for the nut.

Instructions

    • 1

Match the correct size wrench to the nut that you wish to adjust.

    • 2

Place the head of the wrench over the nut. Secure it to the nut making sure that you leave as much space to twist the wrench in the intended direction as possible.

    • 3

Twist the wrench in a clockwise direction to tighten it or an anti-clockwise direction to loosen it. Remove the wrench and replace it if you cannot do full turns.
