How to Troubleshoot a Rotozip Keyless Chuck

RotoZip is an electric cutting tool manufactured by RotoZip Tool Corp. It is also known as a rotary saw or spiral saw. This electric saw is used for precision cutting in thin, solid materials --- such as drywall and plywood. The RotoZip company was founded in 1972 by a professional drywall contractor. The company was acquired by Robert Bosch Tool Corporation in 2003. Regular care and inspection of the RotoZip saw can help optimize its continued performance. The keyless chuck is the portion of the saw which secures the bit for cutting. If the chuck jaw begins to stick during operation, the chuck needs to be lubricated.

Instructions

Prepare the chuck for lubrication. Rotate the chuck counter-clockwise to open the jaws. If a bit was inserted, remove the bit. Inspect the interior of the jaws for debris.

    • 2

Clean the interior of the jaws with compressed air to dislodge any debris. Do not use a sharp instrument for clearing debris, such as wire or a screwdriver, as this might scratch or damage the chuck. Wear safety goggles when cleaning the jaws with compressed air to protect your eyes from dislodged debris.

Apply a small amount of multi-purpose grease to the interior walls of the jaws. Too much grease might compromise the functionality of the chuck. Rotate the chuck clockwise until it is fully closed, then counterclockwise until it is fully opened. Repeat this full range of motion rotation three times to thoroughly distribute the grease.
