Grinding and filing is a job that can be extremely difficult with a hand file. That's why electric grinders are an invaluable tool to have in the metal shop. Hitachi manufactures several styles of electric grinders, such as the G12SR. The G12SR is an older model but is comparable to the newer G18MR and G23MR models. Hitachi grinders use a rotary disc to grind down metal ends. The carbon brushes inside the Hitachi help to provide some friction of the grinder's motor. Worn brushes inside the grinder can cause damage to the motor.
