How to Mix Blades for Thinsets

Thin set mortar is used to set tiles onto walls and floors. Thin set will adhere tiles to substrate or backing. There are several companies that make a wide range of thin set products. You can opt for faster drying times, water resistance or greater adhesion. Mix larger quantities of thin set with a paddle mixer. For smaller inside jobs, you can use a mixing blade to prepare your thin set mortar.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill the bucket 1/4 full with water. If you are using an acrylic additive that some products require, add that now.

    • 2

Start to add small quantities of the thin set. Mix with the mixing blade between additions.

    • 3

Add thin set to your mixture until it resembles peanut butter. Let it rest for five minutes. Water content, humidity and heat will all play a factor in the quantity of the thin set you will need to add. Rely on the feel of the thin set rather than prescribed ratios.

    • 4

Use the mixing blades to stir the mixture for another five minutes. Then, it is ready for application.
