A mallet can be much more useful and safer than using a metal hammer in some instances. Hammers have a smaller head, which means that the likelihood of missing your target increases. As well, some metal hammers can cause extraneous damage. For example, tapping dowel joints together with a metal hammer could result in splitting the wood. To prevent these unfortunate occurrences, use a mallet. Begin building your own mallet by crafting the head.
