How to Apply Loctite

Loctite makes adhesives for both commercial and residential use and is owned by the Henkel Corporation, which operates in over 125 different countries. Loctite products are typically known for their strong properties, much like super glues. Most Loctite products have a similar application process, and are user friendly so long as you take the time to clean the surfaces before applying the adhesive.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the surfaces on which you will apply the Loctite. Use a damp sponge to wipe away dirt and grime. Remove wax, oil or paint with rubbing alcohol or a de-greasing agent. Allow the surfaces to completely dry.

    • 2

Place the surfaces against each other to make sure they fit properly before you open the Loctite adhesive. Use sandpaper to roughen up any smooth surfaces. This gives the Loctite better adhesion.

    • 3

Put on a pair of gloves to prevent getting adhesive on your skin.

    • 4

Open the Loctite adhesive. Hold the bottle upright. Pierce the bottle with the tip of the cap to break the protective seal.

    • 5

Squeeze the Loctite adhesive onto the surface. As a general rule, use only one drop of adhesive per square inch of surface area.

    • 6

Press the two surfaces together as soon as you are done applying the adhesive. Hold the two surfaces together for one minute.

    • 7

Dampen a rag with mineral spirits and wipe away any excess adhesive. Leave the surfaces untouched for at least 10 minutes. You can move the pieces after that, but full cure of the adhesive takes 24 hours.

    • 8

Clean off the tip of the adhesive bottle with a tissue. Do not leave excess adhesive on the tip of the bottle where it can dry and clog the tube.
