What Is the Difference Between the Fein Supercut & the Multimaster?

FEIN, a German power tool company, offers both the MultiMaster and the SuperCut, very similar products that enable construction professionals to work faster and more efficiently. The MultiMaster came onto the scene in 1986. It was the first tool of its kind, and remained unique until its patent expired in 2008, at which point other manufacturers copied the design with varying degrees of success. Thus FEIN developed the SuperCut, which is essentially a more powerful and slightly faster MultiMaster.
  1. Types of Kits

    • Each product has a variety of packages available: the MultiMaster offers one basic kit and several kits with additional options, while the SuperCut offers kits for specific types of work. The MultiMaster is designed for general use and has blades to cut most materials. The SuperCut's carpenter and flooring kits primarily replace saws for both large area and detail work, while the tile/bathroom and grout kits allow precision grout and tile cuts and remove adhesives.

    Cords and Batteries

    • The MultiMaster offers both a corded tool, allowing professionals a limitless cut time and consistent power, and a battery tool. The SuperCut also comes in both corded and battery-powered options. The corded option has the same benefits as the MultiMaster, while the lithium-ion battery option includes a rapid charger and two batteries, which allows professionals to work in areas without close electrical outlets. The batteries are also designed to maintain their charge during storage.

    Watts, Oscillations and Quick Release

    • The MultiMaster offers a 250-watt motor with 11,000 to 20,000 oscillations per minute. The corded SuperCut is 400 watts and the battery option is 18 volts; both offer 11,000 to 18,500 oscillations per minute. All the kits have a hexagon quick release system that allows users to change the accessories without needing tools. This is helpful when using several blades on the same projects.

    How to Choose

    • The MultiMaster offers a variety of blades and sanding options in one package. It is slightly slower than the SuperCut, which has fewer blades and sanding options per kit. The MultiMaster is appropriate for a carpenter or handyman who may need to manage several projects with different materials throughout the day. The SuperCut is more appropriate for a specialist who handles one type of material on a regular basis.
