How to Remove Drawers From a Matco Toolbox

Matco toolboxes come in two types: bench chests, which include two- and three-drawer models, and "tote trays," which are akin to heavy-duty duffel bags. Matco also manufacturers many other items, including aviation tools, HVAC tools, as well as automotive engine and body repair tools. Matco's bench chest models have same-sized drawers; if you wish to remove a drawer, the task only requires a single hand tool.

Instructions

    • 1

Place your Matco tool chest on an elevated surface, such as work bench or table so you do not have to bend down.

    • 2

Open the drawer on your Matco toolbox you wish to remove. Empty the contents temporarily to avoid having items shift and/or fall out as you take the drawer out of the toolbox.

    • 3

Locate the retaining screws on either side of the drawer, inside the drawer box.

    • 4

Unfasten the retaining screws on either side of the drawer with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Put the screws inside your pocket to avoid losing them and for quick access when you re-install the drawer.

    • 5

Push the drawer in slightly, then pull it up and out of the Matco toolbox. You may have to grasp the guide rails on either side to remove the drawer if they begin to slide while you pull the drawer out of the toolbox.

    • 6

Set the empty drawer aside until you are ready to re-install it in your Matco toolbox.
