How to Lubricate the Wheels for the Blade on a Sears Band Saw

A Sears Craftsman tabletop band saw has two wheels mounted inside its shell. These wheels rotate the band saw blade. The wheels have a thin rubber coating on them to aid with traction; however, adding a small amount of lubrication to the wheels will help to clean them off. When lubricating your band saw wheels, use a general all-purpose lubricating oil.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug your Sears Craftsman band saw from its electrical outlet.

    • 2

Locate the locks on the housing doors. Press in on the locks and rotate the locks 1/4-turn counterclockwise to unlock them. Open the doors to expose the upper and lower wheels.

    • 3

Manually rotate the left wheel counterclockwise. As you turn the wheel, place a drop of all-purpose lubricating oil directly onto the blade on the side that will ride against the wheel. Apply five or six drops of oil in total as you turn the wheel.

    • 4

Rotate the wheel counterclockwise five to 10 times to lubricate both wheels. The oil placed on the blade will travel over the upper wheel and get to the lower wheel.

    • 5

Close the doors on the band saw, then lock them by pressing the locks in and turning them 1/4-turn clockwise.

    • 6

Plug the band saw back in.
