How to Cut Marble Tile So It Won't Break

Marble tiles on walls and flooring increase your home's value. Do-it-yourselfers accustomed to cutting clay-based ceramic or porcelain tile with a manual tile cutters will find marble tile more challenging. Limestone-based marble is much harder, and the best tool to cut it without breaking it is a wet saw with a special blade.

  • Tape measure
  • Carpenter's pencil
  • Masking tape
  • Wet saw
  • Diamond blades

Instructions

      Read the instructions for operating the wet saw. Set up the wet saw with a diamond blade attachment. Fill the sprayer with water and turn on the saw to ensure that the blade is coated with water when it is operating.

      Measure the area of the tile to be cut and mark it with the carpenter's pencil. Optionally, use masking tape to mark the tile.

      Put on eye protection and work gloves.

      Place the marble tile in position, hold it securely and guide it smoothly through the wet saw.
