How to Adjust the Pressure Switch on a Craftsman 2HP 15 Gallon Tank Compressor

A Craftsman air compressor is one of the most versatile tools in a garage or home workshop. The Craftsman 15-gallon compressor model has a 2HP motor that can support a full-range of air tools and features a manually-set pressure switch to make certain you are meeting the required pressure needs for any tool you're using while operating the compressor at peak efficiency.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine the pressure (PSI or pounds per square inch) recommendation for the tool to be used. This rating is typically clearly marked on air tools, either stamped in the housing or printed on the specifications label.

    • 2

Locate the compressor's air pressure valve adjustment knob on the hose connection fitting at the top of the air tank. The adjustment knob is marked with a rotation arrow to indicate the adjustment direction.

    • 3

Fill the compressor tank by running the compressor until the PRV (pressure relief valve) shuts the motor off. Visually monitor the air pressure gauge mounted on the front of the tank to ensure it is operational and reading the tank pressure as it fills.

Adjust the tank pressure to the desired setting by turning the pressure switch adjustment dial while monitoring the pressure gauge. Rotate the dial clockwise to increase the air pressure and counterclockwise to decrease the pressure setting. The compressor motor will maintain an air pressure range of plus or minus 5 to 10 PSI of the setting during normal operation.
