How to Cut With a Drywall Ax

A drywall ax is not actually a proper ax but rather an ax-like blade attached to the back end of a drywall hammer. The ax-head is useful only for making fairly crude cuts in drywall and should never be used if precise cuts are needed, as the ax will tend to make very jagged cuts when used. If all you need, however, is a quick cut in an area that will not be visible once the project is complete, the ax can be quite useful.

• Marker
• Rubber mallet

     Mark on the drywall with your marker where you need the cut made.

     Place the ax-head against the drywall so that the cutting edge lays against the mark you made.

   • 3

     Strike the hammer-end of the drywall ax with your rubber mallet to drive it through the drywall.
