Air Pressure Switch Instructions

An air pressure switch regulates the pressure in an air compressor tank. As you use such a tool, the pressurized air travels out of the tank, through the hose and to the tool, which provides enough force to turn impact wrenches, for example. The air pressure switch turns on during use and powers the motor to refill the tank. Over time, an air pressure switch may stop working, or will not cut in when you need more pressure. In such cases, it needs replacement for the compressor to operate properly.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the air compressor off and unplug it from the power supply. Press the pressure relief valve so that all of the air in the tank exits.

    • 2

Insert a flat screwdriver into the screw on the top of the air compressor pressure switch. Turn the screw counterclockwise to loosen and remove the screw. Pull the screw straight up and out of the cover and lift the cover straight up and off the pressure switch.

    • 3

Remove the four wires on the pressure switch. Loosen the screw terminals holding the wires with a Phillips screwdriver and slide the wires out for this connection. Pull the old pressure switch up and off the air compressor. Place the new pressure switch in position on the air compressor.

    • 4

Remove the top of a new pressure switch cover with a flat screwdriver in a counterclockwise direction. Cut the quick connection ends off the six wire ends if you have the screw terminal type connection on your old pressure switch. If you have the quick connect type of connection, leave the ends intact.

    • 5

Attach the black motor wire to the "T1" terminal on the pressure switch. Connect the white motor wire onto the terminal labeled "T2" on the pressure switch. Push on quick connections or place the wire ends under the terminal screws and tighten the screws clockwise with a Phillips screwdriver.

    • 6

Connect the black power cord wire onto the "L1" terminal on the pressure switch and the white power cord wire onto the "L2" terminal on the switch using your form of either terminal or quick connection.

    • 7

Replace the cover on the pressure switch, insert the screw in the top and tighten it clockwise with a flat screwdriver.
