How to Adjust a Porter

Adjusting a Porter-Cable miter saw blade is important in order to get precision cuts when working with wood. The settings on the miter saw blade can occasionally vibrate out of position while the saw is running, creating problems with the angles of your cuts. The Porter-Cable miter saw can be adjusted in a few minutes with some basic shop tools, saving you lost time and expense of having to replace wood stock because of a bad cut.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

  1. Adjusting the Miter Angle on the Mitre Saw

    • 1

Turn off the Porter-Cable miter saw and unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet before attempting to adjust the miter saw. Unscrew the clamp lever on the fence slide at the left of the saw blade and remove the fence slide from the fence.

    • 2

Unfasten the bolts securing the left fence onto the saw with a socket wrench, and place one edge of an adjustable combination square against the saw blade. Adjust the fence by moving it until it is flush against the combination square.

    • 3

Secure one of the fence bolts with the socket wrench and recheck the alignment with the combination square. With the fence in place, secure the remaining bolts for the fence.

    • 4

Line up the slide support on the fence, using the fence slide as a guide. Attach the fence slide to the fence and secure the bolts that hold the slide support on the saw.

    • 5

Place the edge of a level along the left-side fence and loosen the bolts on the right-side fence with the socket wrench. Use the setting on the left-side fence and adjust the right-side fence with the level.

    • 6

Secure the right-side fence by tightening the bolts to complete the adjustment.

Adjusting the Bevel Angle on the Miter Saw

    • 7

Set the adjustable combination square at a 45-degree angle and place the square against the saw blade.

    • 8

Loosen the outer adjustment screw near the saw blade with an Allen wrench.

    • 9

Turn the miter saw adjustment screw next to the blade with the Allen wrench, until the blade is at a 45-degree angle against the combination square.

    • 10

Tighten the outer adjustment screw of the miter saw with the Allen wrench to secure the angle of the saw blade.

    • 11

Plug the power cord of the Porter-Cable miter saw back into the electrical outlet.
