How to Rewire a Makita 4.8V Cordless Drill With a Plug

The Makita 4.8-volt cordless drill can be used for jobs big and small. The Makita drill battery is a rechargeable battery charged in a plug-in charging station. If the power cord becomes frayed or if the wire leads inside the base become loose, it may need to be rewired. Replacement charging base wires can be ordered through Makita. It takes about 30 minutes to rewire the Makita cordless drill charging base.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the battery from the charging station base and unplug the base from the wall.

    • 2

Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the four screws at the bottom of the charging base.

    • 3

Preheat the soldering iron and then touch the tip of the iron to the soldered wire leads to loosen the solder connections.

    • 4

Use the needle-nose pliers to pull the wire solder connections free.

    • 5

Pull the old cord free through the rubber grommet on the charging base.

    • 6

Feed the replacement power cord end through the rubber grommet.

    • 7

Attach the wire leads to their connection points by hand.

    • 8

Hold the solder about 1 cm above the first wire connection point and melt it with the soldering iron tip. Allow the solder to flow onto the connection and then solidify. This will take seconds. Repeat this process to solder the second wire connection.

Align the top and bottom of the base, insert the screws and tighten them with the screwdriver.
