How to Make a Wooden Top for a Toolbox

A wooden toolbox is a classic handyman's project, but many blueprints do not contain a lid. Adding a lid to a wooden toolbox not only makes for a more visually pleasing appearance, but it protects your tools as well. When making a lid, use the same type and thickness of wood as the rest of the toolbox. Only a few common tools are needed to cut and install the lid.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the dimensions of the top of the toolbox. Mark matching dimensions on the piece of wood from which you make the lid.

    • 2

Cut the outline of the lid using a miter saw. Follow the pencil marks.

    • 3

Position the lid on top of the toolbox. Secure the lid with masking tape.

    • 4

Attach the wooden lid to the rear of the toolbox with T-hinges. Screw the appropriate sized screws through the mounting holes on each T-hinge. Space the T-hinges evenly apart, making sure there is one T-hinge near each edge.
