How to Grind Polyurethane Cement

Polyurethane cement is impact-resistant and a durable flooring material. It has no odor, is resistant to acids and fuels and can be used in high traffic areas. If you are grinding polyurethane cement to smooth or flatten the flooring surface, you do not need to hire a contractor. All you have to do is mount a diamond disc to an upright grinder and let the machine do the work for you.

Instructions

    • 1

Tilt the upright grinder at an angle to access the bottom. You will need two or more people to handle the upright grinder since some grinders weigh more than 400 pounds.

    • 2

Unscrew the bolt located on the existing grinding disc. This bolt is located on the bottom of the grinder head in the center of the grinding disc. Use a power drill set on reverse with a screwdriver bit attachment.

    • 3

Remove the standard grinding disc. Replace it with a diamond disc with the same diameter as the standard grinding disc.

    • 4

Insert the bolt through the center of the diamond disc into the upright grinder head.

    • 5

Set the upright grinder back to its original vertical position. Plug the grinder into an electrical outlet and press the "Power" button. The operator should be holding the grinder by the handles when it is powered on.

    • 6

Push the grinder along the surface of the polyurethane cement to grind down the surface. Continue until the polyurethane cement is ground to the desired specifications.
