How to Change Metal Shear Blades

Handling and taming large pieces of sheet metal cam be tricky work However, there is a power tool called a metal shear that are primarily used for cutting large pieces of sheet metal. Metal shears can range in size from table-top to smaller handheld metal shears. The blades on the metal shear should always be sharp, as dull blades can make cutting sheet metal pieces dangerous, especially if the shears have a form of kickback like some chainsaws do.

      Remove the battery from the metal shear.

      Use the Allen wrench, or hex wrench, to loosen and remove the screws that secure the cutting head. Pull the cutting head forward and off the end of the shear.

      Use the Allen wrench to loosen and take out the three screws that run through the cutting head that hold the three cutting blades in place. Pull the sleeve and the two side cutting heads out by hand.

      Line up two new cutting heads and a new sleeved-blade piece and slip them inside the cutting head.

      Slip the screws through the holes on the side of the cutting head and through all the cutting heads. Tighten these screws with the Allen wrench.

      Twist the cutting head back onto the end of the shear by working it back and forth slightly while pushing it on. Replace the three cutting head retaining screws and then tighten them with the Allen wrench.
