How to Build a Fretsaw

Expert builders and designers use the fretsaw to craft their projects. The fretsaw is a saw used for very delicate cutting work that can cut with a tight curve. It usually has a shallow or fine blade to complete the task. There are several different ways to make a fretsaw. One simple way is to re-purpose a jigsaw.

Instructions

    • 1

Mount a jigsaw upside down under a permanent table in your workshop.

    • 2

Use the jigsaw blade stub as a clamp holder for a 5-inch fret saw blade. Carefully fit it into the jigsaw blade holder. Then fit an overarm that you can fit as a guide and spring.

    • 3

Apply pressure to the jigsaw handle to pull the blade downward. The spring will pull the blade straight back up.

    • 4

Adjust the tension of the spring to calibrate it with your fretsaw needs. Begin testing at low speeds and work your way up to the top speed.

    • 5

Carefully begin using the re-purposed fretsaw for your building needs.
