How to Clear a Root Blower

Under normal situations, your root blower should rotate and circulate fluids or materials without any issues. However, proper maintenance, repair and troubleshooting are all vital for optimal root blower performance. If you have noticed that your root blower sounds strange, runs hot, vibrates excessively, or if the movement appears stressed or labored, your blower needs attention. Often you can clear your blower by hand or by implementing a test run for troubleshooting purposes to identify the issue.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn blower’s power supply off and unplug it.

    • 2

Turn the blower with your hand to check for free movement. If you experience resistance, visually examine the blower for foreign objects. If you find any in the blower’s chamber or gear teeth, remove them carefully with your hand, a stick or equivalent. Never try to remove something when the machine is on as this can cause serious personal injury or blower damage.

    • 3

Loosen the flange bolts or base plate bolts in a counterclockwise direction with a socket wrench. Move the position of the blower with piping to see if there is any foreign object in the chamber area or teeth. Remove anything that shouldn’t be there.

    • 4

Check for deformations of the blower caused by any foreign objects. Repair or replace parts if necessary.

    • 5

Check to see if the lubricating oil is at the appropriate level. Each model of root blower will be different, so look in the owner’s manual for the appropriate level and type of oil.

    • 6

Open the control valves for the inlet and the outlet. You must always open these before using the blower. Otherwise you may cause damage to the machine.

    • 7

Check the nameplate for the root blower’s pressure specification. You will need to know this to make sure it stays in that range.

    • 8

Plug the blower in and turn it on.

    • 9

Look to see if the blower is blowing the proper direction. If not, you will have to turn the machine off and rectify the issue according to the owner’s manual.

    • 10

Observe the blower for abnormal noise, excessive vibrations and high running temperatures. These will indicate the unit still needs attention.

    • 11

Turn the blower off when you are done.
