AWS SS 321 Spot Welding Specifications

AWS SS 321 spot welding involves using a stainless steel alloy in the welding process. There are many different types of stainless steel (410, 416, 302, etc.) and they are classified and numbered by their crystal structure. The three classifications of stainless steel are austenitic, martensitic and ferritic. Stainless steel 321, an austenitic steel, is similar to 304 but with the addition of titanium, which is intended to reduce carbide precipitation. Reduced carbide precipitation is important for welding, which is why SS 321 is popular with welders.
