How to Get a Greenlee 746 to Release

The Greenlee 746 is a hydraulic knock-out ram that you use as a punch to press one object out of another object. For example, you would place the ram punch against a bearing and press it out of a bushing. The hydraulic in the knock-out ram works similar to a floor jack. You press down repeatedly on the foot pedal connected to the knock-out ram and the foot pedal forces the ram out of the housing. When you complete the task of separating the objects, you need to release the hydraulic pressure on the pump to release the ram.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the ram from the object that you pressed and place the ram against the floor.

    • 2

Locate the release valve on the foot pedal and turn it counterclockwise to release pressure on the hydraulic ram. The ram will start to recede into the housing on its own as you release pressure but it will not go in all of the way on its own.

    • 3

Press the ram downward against the floor to push the ram back into the housing until the ram seats all of the way into the housing.
