How to Make a Hinged Wood Sawhorse

Building a sawhorse that can be folded is any easy project that provides you with a valuable tool for almost any other project. It is comprised of two triangular-shaped legs with a horizontal board across the top center. Using two sawhorses with a plywood sheet on top creates an instant work bench that is easily transported. Metal sawhorse brackets are available at any hardware store and allow the horse to be disassembled and folded up for easy transportation.

Things You'll Need

  • Measuring tape
  • Four pieces of 36-by-2-by-4-inch lumber
  • One piece of 48-by-2-by-4-inch lumber
  • Miter saw
  • 1-inch wood screws
  • Miter saw
  • Work horse bracket

Instructions

      Mark the 2-by-4 lumber every 36 inches with a measuring tape and pencil. Make enough markings to create four individual sections. Cut along these lines with a miter saw.

      Mark the 2-by-4 lumber at 48 inches with a measuring tape and pencil. Cut along this line with a miter saw.

      Insert two of the 36-inch sections into the end of the metal sawhorse brackets and secure it with two wood screws through each side of the wood. Repeat this step to build the second set of legs.

      Push the bottom of the legs together to open the top of the brackets. Insert the 48-inch section of lumber in the top of the bracket and close the legs.
