Tools Used to Make Sliding Gates

Sliding gates come in many forms, ranging from those which are used as garage doors to pasture gates on farms or gates to a barn for storing your extra things and your lawn equipment. While the type of gate will determine the exact tools used in the construction process, a few things are required in every gate project, regardless of the material being used.
  1. Cordless Drill

    • A cordless drill is every handyman’s secret weapon. They come with hundreds of attachments that can be used in almost any type of construction setting. Whether you are building a wooden gate that needs bolts tightened to latch two pieces together, or a metal gate that needs to have a hole bored through it to mount a latch or roller, you have the right tool for the job.

    Socket Set

    • Mounting brackets, latches, rollers, tracks and other materials needed for the construction of a sliding gate require the use of some type of tool to tighten things down. While wrenches can be used, they require a lot of manual effort, while socket sets have hundreds of attachments to fit most types of screws, bolts and other mechanisms that require mounting.

    Laser Levels

    • While it is entirely possible to lay things out using the old-fashioned methods of tape measures and triangles to figure square, the advent of technology has allowed for a variety of tools that speed up the planning stages of projects. When you build your sliding gate you should use laser levels, as they can help you figure out the level, plumb and squareness of your gate and gate placement with the click of a button rather than using complicated and antiquated methods.

    Circular Saw

    • Another versatile tool that no carpenter worth his salt goes without is a circular saw. While they were originally designed to cut wood, modern advancements have allowed for a variety of blades to be attached to the saw. This means you can cut a number of material types, so no matter if your sliding gate is metal, wood or some type of composite material, you can find the right blade to cut your pieces to fit.
