How to Change the Tip on a Craftsman Dremel

A Dremel is an extremely versatile rotary tool, useful for anything from engraving to sanding to making precision cuts. This versatility is due to the many tips, or bits, available for use with the tool, which can be interchanged. Each separate tip performs a different function for the Dremel, with hundreds available through multiple manufacturers, including the Sears Craftsman brand. Changing the tips on a Craftsman rotary tool is a simple process with the use of a specially made tool. The tips can be changed within a matter of minutes with little slowdown caused to your project.

  • Dremel tool
  • Collet wrench
  • Dremel bit

Instructions

      Turn the power switch for the Craftsman rotary tool to the “Off” position before attempting to change the tip on the unit.

      Grasp the tool in one hand with its tip pointed upwards. Press and hold the shaft lock button, which is located towards the tip above the power switch.

      Place the head of the collet wrench around the collet nut on the tip of the tool holding the current bit in place. The wrench is sold along with the tool. Turn the nut counterclockwise to loosen it.

      Pull the tip from the tool through the loosened collet nut.

      Insert the shaft of the new tip through the collet nut as far as possible.

      Tighten the collet nut around the new tip to secure the tip into place. Turn on the tool to use the tip as normal.
