Prepare your area for the tile removal. If you are working in an interior space, open any windows or doors to the outside and cover any openings to interior spaces with plastic sheeting. Tape the sheeting to the wall with masking tape to seal in the work area so the dust does not spread and is instead forced out through the exterior openings.
Remove the grout from around a single piece of tile. Insert the blade of the grinder into the joint between the tiles. Hold the grinder firmly in both hands and pull the trigger. Move the blade along the joint to remove the grout.
Cut the piece of tile across the face from corner to corner, leaving you with an X across the piece. You can cut more cross lines if necessary, as some tiles are stuck to the surface more than others and will require additional lines to help you remove the piece.
Remove the tile. Insert the claw of the hammer into one of the lines you cut and pry upwards. Work your way from the inside of the piece towards the outside so you don’t damage the surrounding pieces and cut additional tiles as necessary.
