How to Mount a Walsh Punch Press to the Floor

Operators use punch presses in many industrial applications to drill a variety of shaped holes into sheet metal. A Walsh punch press is a punch press mounted on a metal base with legs that can be secured to the floor. Because some Walsh punch press machines can weigh up to 2600 lbs., as stated by Raco Industrial corporation, the equipment must be mounted to a concrete floor to ensure stability and reduce machine vibration when in operation.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the Walsh punch press on the floor in the area where you want to mount it to the floor. Push the tip of the felt marker through each hole on the metal foots of the machine. Mark the floor where you will drill the holes to secure the equipment.

    • 2

Select the size drill bit by comparing the bolts that came with the Walsh punch press. Install the correct length drill bit into the hammer drill that will create a hole in the concrete at the diameter and depth that matches the bolt.

    • 3

Drill into the concrete. Remove the drill bit. Siphon out the concrete dust with a vacuum as you place the hose at the drill opening.

    • 4

Place the double expansion bolt at the opening with the nut end facing down. Pound it into the drill hole with the hammer until the double expansion bolt is flush with the concrete floor.

    • 5

Drill the rest of the holes and place in the expansion bolts. Line up the punch press so the holes in the metal feet align to the holes in the concrete floor.

    • 6

Put the bolt into the hole. Tighten it first by hand. Place the adjustable wrench on the head of the bolt and secure fully into the floor.
