How to Install a Servo Power Feed

Machines increase the amount of work produced by humans. All machines have some sort of power unit or device that transfers the electrical input to moving the parts of the machine. Bridgeport is a type of milling machine. It is used for "machining" wood, metal or some other material. These machines can be horizontal or vertical and they have a table surface that feeds the material through the cutting process. The Servo power supply feed is what operates the table feed for Bridgeport machines.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the original power feed and save the cap screws that attached it to the table using a hex bit socket wrench. The power feed is located on the right side of the table for model M-0206 Servo power feed. Remove and keep handy the dial, dial nut, hand crank, spring, spring seat, washer and hand crank sleeve. Remove each component by first removing the bolts that hold it in place with the appropriately sized wrench. Remove the spring with needle nose pliers.

    • 2

Slide the shaft extension onto the lead screw shaft and slide the bearing race onto it after first lubricating lightly with grease. Attach the power feed unit to the adapter with two head cap screws using the hex bit socket wrench. Do not tighten completely because you will be removing the Servo power feed and adapter after fitting to make adjustments before securing permanently.

    • 3

Place the power feed unit over the race to center it with the adapter and tighten with the cap screws saved from removing the old power feed with a hex bit socket wrench.

    • 4

Adjust the shaft extension until the front of the race is flush with the needle bearing case on the power feed and then tighten to the lead screw with a wrench. A lead screw is a screw used to minimize friction by translating turning motion into linear motion; it is self locking.

    • 5

Remove the adapter and Servo power feed for modifications to the Bridgeport hub, as is necessary for model M-0206. The adapter is held in place with 4 Phillips Pan Head screws, the Servo power feed by the hex cap screws. Drill through the shaft extension and then reinstall it. Replace the adapter and Servo power feed back onto the shaft extension and re-secure each piece.

Install the bevel gear, dial, hand wheel and the light switch in the order they are listed. The bevel gear goes first, followed by the dial; secure the nut that holds it in place. Secure the hand wheel and light switch using the hex bit socket wrench. Plug the table feed into a 120 volt power supply to test its functionality.
