How to Remove a Self Tightening Drill Bit From a Cordless Dewalt

An exclusive feature included on some DeWalt cordless drill models is a self-tightening chuck to hold drill bits and other drill accessories. With a self-tightening chuck, a bit is inserted, the chuck is clicked closed to hold the bit, and the chuck tightens down on the bit as the drill is used. The chuck eliminates the chance of bit slippage that is possible with the typical hand tightened bit chuck. A DeWalt self-tightening chuck does allow for easy bit removal.

Instructions

    • 1

Lock the DeWalt drill trigger to the Off position. Do this by placing the forward/reverse selection slider in the middle position.

    • 2

Hold the drill with your right hand, holding it just below the chuck near the torque adjustment ring.

    • 3

Turn the chuck with your left hand in a counterclockwise direction or towards the right. The chuck should click open and you can remove the bit.
