DIY Garage Workshop

Garages are a perfect place to do home-improvement projects. They are protected from the elements and keep your things organized and out of the way. Adding a garage workshop is a great idea for those who have a lot of household projects but no place to do them. By incorporating a few simple things in your garage workshop, you will be ready to tackle whatever comes your way.
  1. Workbench and Lighting

    • The most important part of having a garage workshop is having a place to do projects. Installing a workbench in your garage is easy to do. In most cases a wooden workbench will require 2x4 supports and a plywood top. As you build your workbench, be sure that it is sturdy and can handle the extra weight of tools and heavy projects.
Above your workbench you will need extra lighting. Take the time to add lighting that is easy to turn on or off near your workbench. You will be grateful for the extra light when you are working on projects at night.

    Add a Pegboard

    • No garage workshop would be complete without a pegboard. Install the pegboard to the wall, making sure to screw it into the wall studs. Once the pegboard is installed, add hooks to hang your extra tools. This will keep your tools handy and ready for use.

    Storage

    • Most garages are packed to the brim with extra things. The garage seems to be the catch-all storage area of the home. Add extra shelves under your workbench and along the walls for added storage. As you do home projects you will likely need places to store leftover cans of paint, bits and pieces of extra wood or lumber, and rarely used tools.
