How to Create Free Floor Plans

Whether you're mapping out the rooms for a new home or trying to find the best arrangement for your furniture, the best solution is creating a floor plan. The problem is professional architects and designers will charge you a small fortune for this type of work even though you probably already have ideas for the perfect floor plan in your head. The key is getting it out of your head and onto the screen.

Use the elements in the "Construction" window to draw the rooms of your floor plan. You can either replicate your existing home, or you can create a new home. Use the drop down menu in the "Library" window to choose the various elements of your floor plan. Start with the "Structural" category. This will allow you to place basic structural elements, such as a staircase, balcony, fireplace, bath fixture or heating unit.

Go through each category in the "Library" window, placing the objects you want from each one into your floor plan. The categories include "Doors & Windows," "Living," "Bedroom," "Kitchen," "Bathroom," "Rugs," "Plants," "Garden Objects," "Office," "Miscellaneous," "Party/Events," "Sport and Play," "Symbols" and "People." To place an object, simply drag-and-drop in into your floor plan.
