Bedrock Foundation Repair

Repairing a bedrock foundation can either be very simple or very difficult; there is little middle ground. Bedrock often appears at the bottom of a small body of water or underneath a small building. If it lies under a building, it is usually relatively simple to fix. However, if it lies below a body of water, things become a little more challenging. For the most part, you need to find the crack in the bedrock foundation. After this, the rest should not be terribly difficult.

Locate the position of the crack. If it lies in a clear body of water, you can usually see it with the naked eye and without much observation. However, if it is in a small building, finding cracks can be a little more difficult. If the floor is not prone to water damage, you can try pouring out a small amount of water all around the floor. If there is a crack, the water will gravitate towards and seep through it, leaving the area around it dryer. In buildings that have floor over the bedrock, you can check for molding. Moisture gets caught in these cracks and causes mold to appear on the floor above the crack. Though this necessitates tearing up some flooring, in the end it will save you a lot of money in repairs and cleaning out the mold.

Fill the crack up with the industrial sealant or the concrete. If you use concrete, it will last longer and be more resistant, but it also requires quick application as well as manual concoction. Most homemade concrete mixes are simply powders that must be mixed with water to form a thick paste. This paste needs to be inserted fully into the cracks before it drys. If you use sealant, insert the probe as close to the crack as you can and discharge it until the crack is filled up entirely. If the crack is underwater, you will have to use a waterproof sealant.

Smooth over the crack with the putty knife. This will ensure that your flooring will not have any unwanted bulges in it. Once you have smoothed the flooring over, you should be set to clean up the mess and replace the floor. Whatever you use should be relatively fast drying to make sure that there are no lasting issues with the solution.
