Add together the total costs of the project. You should take into account all the supplies and building materials you need. You also need total wages. Total wages are the number of hours you expect the project to take times each person's hourly salary that you are assigning the project. Finally, you need to account for any overhead costs you pay outside of salary, such as insurance premiums and other paperwork for the project. For example, you find a remodeling project will cost you $10,000.
Multiply your total costs by 1 plus the percent you want to make on the project. In the example, if you want to make 20 percent on the project, $10,000 times 1.20 equals $12,000, which will be what you charge for the project.
Find the square footage of the project. You may need to use area formulas if you do not know the square footage in order to calculate it. In this example, assume the project is 10,000 square feet.
Divide the total cost you are billing to the project by the square feet of the project. In the example, $12,000 divided by 10,000 square feet equals a cost of $1.20 per square foot.
