How to Cut Porcelain Wall Tiles

Installing porcelain wall tile allows you to create a special look in many rooms. When installing wall tile, however, you will most likely need to cut some of the tile pieces to fit around corners and fixtures. To properly cut porcelain wall tile, you will need a score-and-snap tile cutter. You can rent this tool at a local hardware store for the duration of your project. This tool is typically the easiest and safest way to cut porcelain wall tile.

  • Tape measure
  • Straight edge
  • Score-and-snap cutter
  • Safety goggles

Instructions

      Measure the needed cuts carefully. As the adage goes, "Measure twice, cut once."

      Mark the cut on the porcelain wall tile with a grease pencil.

      Place the tile in the score-and-snap cutter, lining up the mark with the tile blade.

      Pull (or push) the tile cutter handle across the wall tile. Only make one score on the tile.

      Lift the handle up, pressing the pressure handles against the tile. With a quick, short push, snap the tile in two.

      Clip any rough spots using a set of tile nippers. This will clean the edge to ensure a proper fit for the tile.
