How to Customize Bamboo Shades

Select a stencil that exhibits what you want to incorporate with your home decor scheme. For example, leaves and flowers fit a classic, country environment. Place the stencil over the part of the bamboo shade that you want to customize. Stenciled border designs create beautiful shades. You can also place the stencil along the threading that runs vertically down the shade.

Select a fine-bristled paintbrush and dip it into the color of acrylic paint of your choice. Liberally coat the end of the brush.

Apply the brush to the stenciled area and use dabbing motions to apply the paint. This assures that the stencil is colored in without squeezing paint into the seams of the shades. Do this with multiple colors to decorate and beautify the stenciled area. Let it dry for an hour.

Apply embellishments such as flat-backed marbles and gems with the glue gun. Squeeze a small amount of hot glue onto the backside of an embellishment piece. Attach it to the bamboo shade. Let the hot glue dry for 10 minutes.
