A List of Materials for Base Sink Cabinets

There is a great deal of satisfaction in making a base sink cabinet yourself and having the finish product look good. Decide what kind of cabinet to build and the kind of finish you want. After measuring the space, you can get all the materials you need for the job on a trip to a local home improvement store.
  1. Wood

    • Measure the outside diameter of the base sink cabinet and buy 1/4-inch plywood for the outside and back panels, 1/2-inch plywood for the upper and inside panels, 3/4-inch plywood for supports and drawer hangers and 1-inch by 2-inch boards for the frame and drawer rails. Buy according to the size of cabinet. A standard 35-inch square cabinet, drawer and door will use half a sheet of each size plywood, two 1-inch-by-2-inch boards, one board that is 8 feet long and one board that is 6 feet long.

    Hardware

    • Hardware is needed to hold the base sink cabinet together. Use 1-inch pocket hole screws to attach the back panel to the side panels. Use 1 1/4-inch pocket hole screws or 1 1/4-inch regular screws to attach the cleat in the back and the drawer support. Build the face frame using 2-inch finishing nails. Attach a pair of drawer slides to the side of the cabinet to hold the drawer and allow it to slide back and forth. Fasten the bottom and sides of the drawers together with 1-inch brads. Secure the door with 1-inch finishing nails.

    Tools

    • Measure accurately by using a tape measure and a square. Power tools make the job easier and give the finished base sink cabinet a smoother look. Power tools needed for this job include a sander, drill, saw and nail gun.

    Miscellaneous

    • Put wood filler on top of screw heads to hide the metal. Wood glue is also needed on the door to secure the edge strips and side of drawer to make them stronger. Use masking tape to hold the glued pieces together while drying.
