How to Put Together Bricks

Bricks are heavy-duty building materials that you can use in a variety of construction projects. Bricks are good sound proof isolators and they keep heat inside and cold outside. Nearly 70 percent of self builders use bricks for home construction projects. There are many shapes and sizes of bricks, but most often bricks come in a red color and a rectangle shape form. You can use bricks for many projects, such as building a wall.

Instructions

    • 1

Clear away plants and debris in the area where you want to build a wall. Dig a 1-foot deep foundation using a shovel.

    • 2

Prepare the concrete according to the manufacturer's instructions on the bag and pour the mixture into the foundation. Level the surface of the concrete using a trowel. Wait one day for the concrete to dry.

    • 3

Mix another load of concrete mixture. Pour a 1-inch thick layer on top of the foundation and lay a line of bricks on the foundation.

    • 4

Put the bricks together so that there is little or no gap between them. Wait until the underlying concrete dries before you place another level of bricks.

    • 5

Start the second layer five inches inward from the edge of the first layer, in other words, leave a 5-inch-long empty space at the edge of the wall. Cut off a five inch long brick bit using a brick saw or an angle grinder and place it to the edge where you left a five inch space out. Placing bricks this way will strengthen the wall.

    • 6

Pour another layer of concrete on top of the first level of bricks. Lay another level of bricks in the concrete layer. Continue laying bricks this way until you reach the required height for the wall.

    • 7

Use scaffolding if you want to build a wall several feet high. Ask a professional to set up a scaffolding for you if you are unsure how to do it.
