Fill the flower pot three-fourths full with the potting soil. Select a specially formulated soil for showy, colorful flowers. These soils come with fertilizers in them to promote healthy blooms.
Cover the soil in the pot with a 2-inch layer of peat moss, which helps improve drainage.
Insert the corm, or bulb, of the gladiolus plant into the center of the flower pot. Insert it approximately 1 inch into the peat moss and soil.
Add 2 cups of water to the flower pot. Place the pot in a sunny windowsill or outdoors in your container patio garden. The gladiolus will bloom in full shade as well as direct sunlight during the springtime, but in hot, arid weather it should be kept in the shade. Propagation from bulb to sprout takes approximately 14 days.
