The Best Ideas for Doing Walls in a Mobile Home

Mobile homes are prefabricated houses that can be mobile or placed in one location. Similar to custom-build homes, a variety of materials can be used in their construction. Regardless if you plan on designing a new mobile home or remodeling an existing one, a variety of materials can be used for the walls inside the home, depending on your budget and concepts.
  1. Paint

    • Paint is one of the most common ways of finishing walls inside a home. Types of paint range from water-based to acrylics and latex paints, and the variation of colors is nearly limitless, based upon personal preference. Paint can be used on walls anywhere throughout the mobile home, although the type of paint you use depends on if you are painting a dry-area wall or a wet-area wall, in which case a waterproof paint should be used.

    Tile or Natural Stone

    • While tile and natural stone are more common in bathroom, laundry and wet-areas for walls, ranging from skirts (half-walls) to floor-to-ceiling installation, they can be used in any area. The type of tile and stone used depends on your budget, but as a general rule, tile and natural stone should only be used in permanently-based mobile homes, as the movement associated with a traveling mobile home can crack the grout and compromise the structural integrity of the installation.

    Wood Paneling

    • Wood paneling is another common type of wall material. It can range from pre-fabricated wood paneling, purchased in any home improvement store, to custom-created paneling using your chosen type of wood. You can also use refurbished wood as well as planking from old barns or other older buildings to create a rustic look.

    Sheet Metals

    • Sheet metal wall finishing can range from copper to steel to tin and beyond. One of the more rustic variations is to use sheets of tin from old barns to create wall skirts that are capped with refurbished wood, but you can also purchase new sheets of metal from your local home improvement store, depending on whether you want stamped copper or polished steel, for example.
