Cost of Installed Maple Hardwood Floor

Hardwood flooring is one of the most common types of flooring materials installed in homes and offices around the world, similar to carpet and tile. There are a number of choices you can make, ranging from oak to pine to maple hardwood floors, or more exotic types such as cherry or cypress. There are a variety of factors that can influence the cost of an installed maple hardwood floor, and knowing them in advance can help you estimate your budget.
  1. Type of Finish

    • The type of finish you choose for your maple hardwood floor will dictate part of the price for the installed floor. Unfinished wood costs less up front, but can get expensive if you decide to finish it after installation, such as with sanding, stains and finishes. Pre-finished maple hardwood is more expensive up-front, and as a general rule can run between $8 and $12 per square foot, although your location can change that number.

    Sustainable or Not

    • The latest trend in harvesting, sustainable woods are the modern answer to mass-harvested forests of yesteryear. Environmentally-harvested woods are always more expensive than those which are not, and if you decide to go the green road you can expect to pay upwards of $12 to $14 per square foot for maple hardwood, before installation.

    Labor Costs

    • Labor costs for installing maple hardwood flooring can range across the board, and are dependent on if you live in a rural area, an urban area, and which state/city you are in. The exact type of installation can also influence the overall price, depending on if you want your contractor to nail the maple to other wood, glue the maple down, install a floating wood floor, install it on top of concrete, with or without a moisture barrier, and many other variants. Average prices per hour range between $40 and $60, depending on the level of skill with the craftsman as well as where you live.

    Additional Costs

    • There are a number of factors that can change the cost of your installed maple hardwood floor. Custom borders or special patterns will require additional time and effort on the part of the craftsman, and your numbers will go up accordingly. In addition, if you are dealing with a remodel your craftsman will likely charge you a demolition fee, as well as a trash transportation fee. Stairs also cost extra, as does additional floor prep (which can range from $60 to $80 per hour depending on your area and craftsman).
