How to Make Bullnose From Travertine for Porcelain Walls

While traditional bullnose can be purchased as part of a tile package, such as when you buy 12-inch material and a matching bullnose, there are times when the material you want to use does not have a matching bullnose. In these cases you need to make your own custom bullnose. One of the easiest types of material to make bullnose out of is travertine, and you can use the travertine bullnose to create a termination point for many types of tile, such as porcelain.

Instructions

Decide on the size of your bullnose pieces. For example, you might want a 3-inch-by-12-inch bullnose tile for your edge, or you might want to use a full piece of 12-inch travertine. For smaller pieces, but them down to size using the tile saw. Set your gauge on the tray and cut as many pieces as you need in terms of linear feet. Cut 10 percent extra to be on the safe side for waste.

Unplug the tile saw. Use the accompanying tool located on the saw to loosen the bolt holding the blade in place. Remove the diamond blade and put the profiling wheel in its place. Align the arrows on the wheel with the arrows on the saw to ensure you have the wheel positioned correctly. Reattach the bolt and tighten it with the tool. Plug the saw back in.

Create your bullnose pieces. With the saw off, align a piece of tile so that the chosen edge aligns with the profiling wheel in such a way that it will round the edge according to your preferred angle. Set the gauge on the tray on the opposite side of the piece so it holds the piece in place. Run a piece of tile through the saw and let the profiling wheel round off the square edge to create bullnose. Repeat this process for all of your bullnose pieces.
