Instructions

    • 1

Remove any furniture, boxes or storage items. Cleaning out the room before you make it into your classroom gives you a better idea of the space you have to work with.

    • 2

Paint your walls with chalkboard paint. Chalkboard paint turns any wall into a chalkboard. Paint all of your walls so your children have areas for drawing murals or playing during breaks or after class is over. Chalkboard paint is also magnetic, which enables you to place artwork and homework on the walls without using thumb tacks. Painting one wall is enough room for writing information.

    • 3

Put all of your necessary teaching materials such as handbooks on a bookshelf. Organize reading books for your children on one bookshelf and teaching materials on another bookshelf. Use bookshelves that provide plenty of room for reading materials. As you add more material to your lessons, add more books. Keep your books up to date. These shelves are your library.

    • 4

Get a paper organizer for each child’s work. Not only does this keep the classroom clean but it also makes it easier for you to find different papers if your children are in different grades. Hang the paper organizer on the wall for easy access.

    • 5

Place a large table in the middle of the room. A big table gives your children and you enough room to spread out books and work on projects during class time. Provide your children with comfortable chairs that sit high enough to access the table top.

Provide adequate lighting for the room. Install overhead lights or use lamps that take higher wattage bulbs. Utilize the natural light through any windows by keeping the shades up.
