How to Turn a Wooden Shed Into a Man Cave

A "Man Cave" is an area of a house or a stand-alone building where men can retreat to escape their daily lives and pass the time happily. Often, men will turn a basic wooden shed into their own personal space. While some Man Caves have a theme, others simply contain all of a man's favorite items and pastimes. Everything from oversized recliner chairs to high-tech computers and fully stocked bars fill up this testosterone-fueled space.

Instructions

    • 1

Install electricity. If there aren't many toys that need electricity, a simple industrial electric cord that runs from the house to the shed should suffice. Make sure it's an outdoor electric cord that can withstand different kinds of weather, and install outlets as needed. If more electricity is needed in the Man Cave, have a professional install a permanent electricity source.

    • 2

Fill the walls and roof with fiberglass insulation, making sure that every crack, crevice and gap is filled in, paying close attention to the area between the walls and the foundation. The outside of gaps can then be sealed with waterproof caulk. Drywall should be hung as well, after the insulation is installed.

    • 3

Heat the shed, unless it's in a geographical area where the climate is always on the warmer side. Space heaters can be used or a more permanent heating source can be installed.

    • 4

Deck out the man cave with essentials, including a large, flat-screen television and DVD player, leather recliner, stereo, refrigerator, computer and fully stocked bar. It may be necessary to call the cable company so that the Man Cave can get digital cable or the sports network. Also, if there's going to be a computer in the Man Cave, Wi-Fi is a necessity.

Decorate according to a theme. Some men collect sports memorabilia while others are into action figures or comic books. The theme can also center around a hobby; section off an area to turn into a workshop or put a couple of guitars and amplifiers in one corner.
