How to Mix Polyblend Grout

Mixing grout the proper way is vital to the overall strength of the grout. Not only does the mixture need to smooth and free of air bubbles, it also needs sufficient time to chemically activate and allow the color pigments to mix into the mixture. Polyblend grout is a type of sanded grout that mixes exactly the same as the other types of grout and it can be used in any scenario where sanded grout is required. As long as the grout is mixed properly it will last for years.

Instructions

    • 1

Empty the dry grout mixture into your bucket or container. Fill a measuring cup with the appropriate amount of water depending on if you have a 25-pound bag or 10-pound bag (based upon the instructions on the side of the bag) and add that to the mixture in the container.

    • 2

Mix the grout and water together with a margin trowel or a low speed drill under 300 RPMs. The reason you mix the grout slowly is because if you try and mix it quickly it will introduce air bubbles into the mixture that will then pop during the curing process, leaving behind pinholes in the finished grout. Take your time and mix it slowly.

    • 3

Allow the grout time to slake before using it. The chemicals in cement, the pigments and polymers and other additives in the grout need time to soak up the water and chemically activate. With Polyblend grout you only need to wait 10 minutes and then you can remix the grout to use it on your installation surface.

Remix the grout without water as needed throughout the grouting process, keeping it in a working condition that is smooth and creamy. When the grout becomes stiff you can throw it out and mix a new batch.
