How to Draw a Folding Door on a Floor Plan

A floor plan is a collection of symbols in specific locations on a top-down map of a room or building. Each symbol corresponds to a specific structure, such as a wall or a door. Folding doors, also known as concertina doors, are represented by a wavy line connected to only one wall on a floor plan and extending halfway toward a second wall. This allows the folding door to be easily identified and differentiated from other structures, such as regular doors.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the position of the folding door on the floor plan. The door will usually be positioned between two walls on the plan, or a wall and another similar surface. Position the pencil at the center of the vertical line denoting the edge of the wall the door folds up against. This is your starting point.

    • 2

Draw a straight line going up and away at 45 degrees from the starting point, using the ruler to get a straight line. The length of the line is equal to the width of the wall on the floor plan. Draw another line leading down and away at 45 degrees from the end of the line you just drew. This line is double the thickness of the wall in length.

    • 3

Draw seven more lines line the previous line, alternating upwards and downwards at 45-degree angles to the end of the line immediately preceding the last one drawn. The length of each line should be double the thickness of the wall. Use the ruler to get a straight line each time.
